Travelers Rest invests for the future

Travelers Rest invests for the futureThe Saint-Gobain Abrasives manufacturing facility in Travelers Rest, South Carolinarecently completed a $4 million capital campaign to strengthen the site’s ability to supply high-quality superabrasive products.

The site has invested in machining, quality, plating and design upgrades.  Travelers Rest’s new cutting-edge measuring machine is one of only three of its kind in North America.  A new machining center with complete CAD/CAM capability is the centerpiece of the production investments, along with a machine--transferred from the Abrasives facility in Staverton, England—that significantly enhances automation of Travelers Rest’s product lines.

The facility’s upgrade includes establishing a “machining center of excellence,” introduction of advanced lapping technology and significant enhancements in metrology—exacting measurement will lead to growth-enabling precision increasingly demanded by our customers.

“This has been the largest capital campaign Superabrasives has had in several years,” says David Conrad, plant manager.  “The investments provide us with a competitive advantage in product quality that confirms our leadership in the markets we serve.  We have design, machining, plating and measurement technology that   provides state-of-the-art service and product quality to our customers throughout North America.  These equipment investments coincide with human resource investments in engineering personnel and leaders who will lead our business into future, effectively using Travelers Rest’s new assets.”
