On 3rd March 2021, the Federation for European Producers of Abrasives (FEPA) will participate in a virtual event hosted by The European Commission as part of a drive to transform the abrasive industry’s business model towards sustainability.
EU Industry Week will see local events covering different topics, including digital initiatives, climate-neutrality targets and EU competitiveness in the changing global competitive landscape.
FEPA will host an EU Industry Week Event on 3rd March 10am-11am (CET) during which the SEAM (Sustainable European Abrasive Manufacturers) initiative, launched in January 2020, will be promoted. The SEAM program guarantees that member organisations from within the abrasive supply chain manufacture and distribute abrasives according to new sustainability standards. Saint-Gobain is proud to be an active member of the SEAM initiative, joining forces with other abrasive manufacturers to implement measures to support sustainable growth in production and distribution.
The SEAM event will be hosted by FEPA’s President, policy maker and panelists, who will present the recent EU directives on sustainability, followed by a discussion on how SEAM is offering a practical solution to sustainability for the abrasives industry via three fundamental pillars: environment, labour and economy. Within the three pillars, several evolving targets including energy management, employee safety and business continuity must be met.
By actively participating in the SEAM program, Saint-Gobain Abrasives reflects its Group’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050 as well as being guided by the Saint-Gobain purpose, “MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER HOME”, which responds to the shared ambition of all the women and men in the Group to act every day to make the world a more beautiful and sustainable place to live in.
