On January 17th 2022, 6 brand new charging stations for electric vehicles were installed on the parking lot of the campus at Saint-Gobain Abrasives’ head office in Conflans, France. Two are 22kW charging points, where a battery can be recharged in 3 hours for a fraction of the cost of traditional thermal engine. The installation also includes four 7.4kW stations that will do the job in 5 hours.
The stations are fully compatible with all electrical vehicles (EV) and rechargeable hybrid cars (PHEV) and the stations will be opened to anyone driving to the campus, including employees, suppliers and customers.
This initiative is fully embedded in the ‘Encourage employee engagement’ pillar of our sustainability roadmap, offering a solution to EV owners coming on campus, as well as encouraging others to transition to greener mobility solutions. First conservative estimations show that this project could save up to 1000 tons of CO2 per year* on daily commutes. This is the equivalent of 500 round trips from Paris to New York City!
The number of stations may be extended depending on the demand and replicated on other campuses across SGSS or even other Saint-Gobain entities.
*Estimation based on an average daily commute of 30km per day, for 6 employees coming on campus 4 days per week, transitioning from traditional thermal engine car to EV.
