Saint-Gobain Abrasives

Bearing - do not use

Grinding and honing operations performed by bonded abrasives in bearing production are characterised by very high precision results, which are depicted by the relatively small amounts of material being removed and controlled fine surface achieved. In most cases, bearings are manufactured of steel, 100Cr6 (AISI 52100).

Such precision requires machines to be strong to minimise vibrations and mechanically well designed in order to be able to execute very accurate movements. Coolant most often used is emulsion oil-water for grinding operations & oil for superfinishing operations.

We offer a wide range of both organic & vitrified bonded abrasive products for grinding & superfinishing all elements encountered in the bearing industry, including balls, internal & external rings & rollers. The elements are machined to the required micro geometry, to allow them to work at minimal friction for the longest possible time.

Key Grinding Wheel Characteristics

  • high mechanical and chemical wear resistance
  • high temperature resistance
  • controlled porosity
  • good coolant transportation to the grinding area
  • good chip removal from grinding area
  • high stock removal rate
  • high dressability
