Saint-Gobain Plattsville facility provides for the community

The Saint-Gobain Abrasives facility in Plattsville, Ontario, has developed a quarterly program to distribute its Community Gift donations.

Each quarter, Plattsville employees are encouraged to submit their nomination for an organization they believe would benefit from the donation. A committee votes on the nomination and two organizations are selected for a $446 donation.

Plattsville’s most recent beneficiaries are the Southside Public School in Woodstock, Ontario, and the local Wounded Warriors program.

Southside Public School’s playground, being past its prime and past providing healthy outdoor activity for all children, is not large enough to be used steadily by all grades.  Saint-Gobain’s donation is contributing to the school building renovation and addition, with the goal of building a new playground which accommodates 350 students. The Plattsville plant also donated to the local chapter of The Wounded Warriors Project, which connects, serves, and empowers wounded warriors (veterans) by providing free programs and services that address their needs and fill gaps in government care. “We have been doing this program for some time and the community is really appreciative of our company,” says Gabriel Caridade, plant manager. “I think it goes a long way to promote our emphasis on social responsibility and community engagement, and is a very positive aspect of our corporate culture.”

Through the Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation's Plant Community Gifts program, each manufacturing plant across the United States and Canada makes a contribution to the development of the community in which it operates.  Specific donations and initiatives are determined by the plants themselves, depending on regional needs and priorities. In keeping with the company's overall giving missions and values, Saint-Gobain contributions demonstrate the company's commitment to education, housing, arts & culture, and many more worthy causes.  Each year, the Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation allocates a Community Gifts budget to each manufacturing location in the U.S. and Canada, based on the number of people employed at each facility
